Wednesday, April 6th is National Sart! Walking Day.Walking is the single most effective form of exercise to achieve heart health. 

Studies show that for every hour of brisk walking, life expectancy may increase by 2 hours.  People are encouraged to walk 30 minutes as part of the American Heart Association's National Start! Walking Day.

Teenagers who begin smoking at an early age are much more likely to start using marijuana by the time they're 17, researchers report.

Their analysis of data from a Finnish-American birth cohort study that began in 1994 found that by the time they were 17, about 15 percent of girls and 12 percent of boys had used marijuana or other illicit substances at least once.

Social media Web sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, have become nearly inescapable facets of modern life, particularly for kids. And a new report suggests they can have real benefits and risks for children.

These sites, and virtual gaming worlds, allow users to interact with each other and they are where children and adolescents are spending a lot, if not most, of their free time, according to a report on the impact of social media just released by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The report, published online March 28 in Pediatrics, says that more than half of adolescents log on to a social media Web site at least once a day, and nearly one-quarter of teens say they log on to their favorite social media sites 10 or more times each day.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles #3263 has scheduled the Annual Doug Anderson Golf Tournament to benefit the Doug Anderson Heart Fund. The tournament is scheduled for May 22nd at the Hampton Cove Robert Trent Golf Course.

You can sponsor a TEE for a tax deductible donation of $100.00. A sign with your company name and location of said company will be placed at the tee box. The proceeds from the TEE sponsorship will go directly to the Doug Anderson Heart Fund.

Police received information about possible drug activity at the suspects residence in the 200 block of Sebring Drive in Scottsboro. Police say they went to home and found a small amount of methamphetamine and items used to inject meth.

Man arrested for failing to register as a convicted felon

Man arrested for failing to register as a convicted felon

Marshall County deputies arrested 58 year old Larry Carl Walcott of Scottsboro for living in Marshall County without registering as a convicted felon.

Wednesday, Walcott was arrested at his home and taken to the Marshall County Jail. His bond was set at $10,000 and has since posted bond.
