Right now we are confident that we will see snow falling across North Alabama and southern Tennessee by 10pm Thursday night.   Some of the snow could be heavy and wet but it doesn't look like temperatures are going to drop fast enough for us to see significant travel problems.  There will likely be a few slick spots on bridges and overpasses and of course the parkway and elevated sections of I-565 are always a question mark this far out.  The round of snow will be brief but some areas could see anywhere from a dusting up to 1.5 inches of snow in a three hour period.  Most of the snow accumulation will be confined  to the grassy areas as well as rooftops and on cars because ground temperatures will not be as cold as they were with the last event.  Lows tonight will be around freezing and highs tomorrow will reach the lower 50s ahead of the rain.  Expect showers to develop around 4pm and track from the west to the east.

Gov. Bentley's comments stir controversy

Governor Robert Bentley is drawing criticism for a statement made during his inaugural events.

Some call the remarks shocking and offensive. Bentley told a church crowd in Montgomery that anyone who isn't a Christian isn't his brother or sister, and that he wants them to accept Christ so he can be their brother.

Gov. Bentley on verge of declaring proration

Governor Bentley admits he may be on the verge of declaring proration early on in his administration.

"I think declaring proration in the education budget is a possibility and in the general fund, it is more of a probability," he said.

Bentley talked about the proration possibilities just before he swore in his cabinet Tuesday morning. Bentley says his administration is already looking at how much proration will be needed in the state's two budgets.

Bentley says he feels it would be better to declare proration early so state agencies could better deal with the impact over the coming months.

Bentley says it's the state's budget that pays for roads and prisons that is hurting the most.
