Wanted Jackson Co. sex offender caught in Oklahoma | Crime
Tulsa, OK (WAFF) - A convicted sex offender from Henagar is in custody in Oklahoma. Jackson County deputies were searching for 43 year old Phillip Glen Clanton on several warrants, including : Violation of Sex Offender Community Notification Act, receiving stolen property, theft and probation violations.
Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen says the Clanton was wanted in connection with an auto theft / chop shot ring operating in Jackson & DeKalb counties in Alabama, and Wilson County, Tennessee. They're suspected in several car thefts. About $70,000 worth of stolen property was found during the investigation.
Clanton was convicted of rape in Jackson County in 2008. Harnen says he broke the community notification act by going to Oklahoma without telling authorities. Law enforcement agencies in Tulsa are working with Jackson County deputies to arrange Clanton's return.
