Wanted suspect runs into Jackson Co. swamp, disappears | Crime
Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for a missing man following a run-in with the law last weekend.
According to Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen, a deputy was called to check out two suspicious people in a convenience store in Scottsboro Friday night. The men were hanging out in the back of the BP Quick Stop on Highway 35 at Gant Road.
As the deputy approached the two men, one of them ran off. The man who stayed was identified as 38 year old Anthony Grey of Pisgah. He was arrested on outstanding warrants from Rainsville. Investigators were called to the scene with K-9 units to chase the second man. He's been identified as 33 year old Charles Liles, also of Pisgah.
The dogs tracked Liles to a water treatment plant near the highway. The dogs cornered him, forcing Liles to run through a marshy area towards the water plant. Deputies lost sight of him, and continued the search for more than two hours before calling off the hunt.
Family members contacted deputies Monday to say they haven't seen or heard from Liles since then. Deputies searched the area on the ground, and from the air for five more hours Monday without turning up any clues.
Deputies say Liles has outstanding warrants, but at this time, they just want to know if the man is okay. If you have any information, call Jackson County Deputies at (256) 574-2610
