Older Americans Festival rescheduled

Older Americans Festival rescheduled

The Older Americans Festival has been rescheduled due to weather.

The festival will be moved from Tuesday May 8 to Thursday May 10.

Gates will open at Sharon Johnston Park at 9 a.m. and festivities will last until 1 p.m. Five counties will take part in the event including Madison, Limestone, Marshall, Dekalb and Jackson counties.

27th annual Old Americans Festival set for May 8

27th annual Old Americans Festival set for May 8

The 27th Annual Older Americans Festival at Sharon Johnston Park in New Market, Alabama begins May 8.

The Top of Alabama Regional Council Of Governments (TARCOG) Area Agency on Aging and the Madison County Commission host this annual event which draws some 3,500 seniors to be honored during "Older Americans Month" in May.

Chairman of the Madison County Commission Mike Gillespie encouraged seniors from the five country area to contact their Senior Centers to make reservations. "We want to be sure, we know you plan to attend. We welcome Seniors, age 60 and above, to enjoy this fun-filled day, Tuesday, May 8, at Sharon Johnston Park."

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Madison, DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone and Marshall counties will all participate.

In recognition of “Older Americans Month” in May, the Madison County Commission and the Top of Alabama Regional Council Of Governments (TARCOG) Area Agency on Aging will host the 27th Annual Older Americans Festival at Sharon Johnston Park in New Market on Tuesday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are still reservations available. Contact your Madison County Commission office or your Senior Center in Dekalb, Jackson, Limestone, Marshall, and Madison counties. Normally more than 3,000 seniors attend this event from the five county regions.  Seniors must bring lunch reservation with them. Only a handful of tickets will be available at the park the day of the event.
 
Festivities include music, dancing, bingo, football toss, entertainment and door prizes. Those attending will receive a goody bag and a box lunch.
