Bubbles for Love to bring awareness to to parental alienation

Governor Robert Bentley and Mayor Tommy Battle proclaimed April 22 through 28 Parental Alienation Prevention Week and April 25 Parental Alienation Awareness Day.

On April 25 at noon, The Alabama Family Rights Association requests people take 10 minutes to blow Bubbles for Love in support of Parental Alienation Awareness in an effort to educate and end of this form of child abuse.

Students to gather at UAH to show off space designs

More than 300 students will be on the campus of The University of Alabama in Huntsville this week to show off their best designs of spacecraft on a science mission to Mercury.

The Integrated Product Team (IPT) open house is scheduled on Wednesday from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. in Spragins Hall.

The (IPT) course is a unique engineering senior design experience that engages UAHuntsville seniors in mechanical and aerospace engineering and industrial engineering as well as undergraduates in the design of a spacecraft to accomplish a science mission to Mercury. The College of Charleston and ESTACA (Ecole Supérieure des Techniques Aéronautiques et de Construction Automobile in Paris, France) are also participants.

Scottsboro High will hold annual plant sale

Scottsboro High School is ready to hold its annual Greenhouse Sale.

All of the plants were grown by students in the Greenhouse Management Program this year.

Plants available for sale include Boston Ferns and summer ferns. Boston Ferns are $8 and all summer ferns are $10.

Bedding plants, tomatoes and peppers will also be available for purchase. All bedding plants range from $2 for a group of 4-6 plants or $16 for a flat. Geraniums will sell for $1.50 a cup.

The sale will be April 9-13 from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Denim and Diamond event scheduled

Highlands Medical Center Foundation's largest fundraiser of the year is coming up.

Denim and Diamond will be an evening with a Mardi Gras theme.

Denim and Diamonds will be held on Saturday, April 21 at the Scottsboro -Goose Pond Civic Center.

The cost is $75 per person. Tables can be reserved for an entire party or business group for $650.

The event will feature music and dinner from local restaurants in Jackson County. A live and silent auction will accompany the event.

DeSoto State Park to host hike

DeSoto State Park will offer an early spring hike.

The hike will be Saturday April 14 starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until noon.

It is free to the community.

Scottsboro church schedules food drive

Goosepond Cumberland Presbyterian Church will be having a non-perishable food drive for CASA on April 7th.

The drive will be set up outside the church collecting the food items from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM.  

The church is requesting items like: canned foods, boxed dinners, pasta, canned soup and similar non-perishable items

Goosepond Cumberland Presbyterian Church is located at the end of Hancock Drive at 1155 Hancock Drive East in Scottsboro, Ala.
