JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- A Jackson County man missing since November 30 has been found dead.
Charles Liles was found dead Thursday in a Jackson County swamp.
Officials said Liles was wanted by police. He and another man were spotted at a convenience store in Pisgah. When police approached, Liles ran.
He fled to a water treatment plant and when K-9 units cornered him, he fled into a marshy area towards the water treatment plant.
Police looked for him for two hours before abandoning the search. Officers continued the search Monday by land and air with no luck.
"You couldn't see in there from dry land, and the mud was very treacherous to walk through there. The water wasn't that deep, probably knee to waist deep, but in spots you could sink up to several feet into the mud," said Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen.
He was found dead Thursday morning in the swamp.
At this time, it is unclear how he died.
Liles' family issued the following statement regarding his death, "We are extremely saddened by this loss. We have heard conflicting reports about the chase and we want a full investigation."
An autopsy has been ordered and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation has been called in to handle the case.
