Investigators reopen Jackson Co. cold case murder | News

JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- A reward from the Governor's office is still out there for a cold case murder that's getting a second look from investigators in Jackson County. 

Someone shot and killed Jerry Wayne Gibson back in 2005.

Investigators are taking a second hard look at Gibson's case and with the reward money and a little help from the community, they hope to close the case.

It was July 28, 2005 when the body of Jerry Wayne Gibson, also known as "Fat Cat," was found.

The area just off County Road 19 in Section was deemed a crime scene where his body was found in a wooded area.

At the time, Sheriff Chuck Phillips said extensive interviews were done, but they were unable to make an arrest in the case. Now, they're taking a second look at the case.

Phillips believes someone out there knows something to help bring closure for the victim's family.

Phillips also said money can help aid in a case like this one.

"What we're wanting to do today is to bring it back into the public's eye that it still is an open case and there is a $10,000 reward from the Governor's office for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone in this case," he said.
