AL man ordered to remove wife's body from yard

James Davis wants to keep his wife, Patsy, buried in his front yard.

STEVENSON, AL (WAFF)- The Alabama Civil Court of Appeals has upheld the ruling of a lower court concerning a Stevenson man who buried his wife in the front yard of his home.

That lower court determined James Davis will have to move the remains of his wife to an approved cemetery.

James Davis buried her in his front yard in 2009 and says it was her dying wish. The city of Stevenson filed suit against Davis.

While state health officials say family burial plots aren't uncommon in Alabama, city officials worry about the precedent set by allowing a grave on a residential lot on one of the main streets through town.

Davis said he plans to take this fight to the Alabama Supreme Court if he has to.

Since the circuit judge's ruling several months ago, Davis said media from across the country have shown interest in his case.

He is now asking the general public for help by making a phone call.

Scottsboro community raises awareness for sexual assault

Officials said flowers would also be planted outside City Hall to help remember those victims of sexual assault.

SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF)- April is Sexual Assault Awareness month.

On Thursday, many people took part in a ceremony in Scottsboro to help raise awareness about the issue at the Scottsboro City Hall.

Officials wanted to let victims know they were there for them and also send a message that one assault is one too many.

Speakers told the group that by the age of 18, one in every four females and one in every six males are a victim to a sexual assault.

Today's technology puts kids at an even greater risk.

While there were many people who spoke at the event, officials said flowers would also be planted outside City Hall to help remember those victims of sexual assault.

"You are like a beautiful flower and you can survive.  You can survive.  And you have the support of this community to survive this terrible assault that has occurred," said Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Traci Bynum.
