Maybe Some Rain

Maybe Some Rain
Actually not a bad weekend for the Valley. There is a very weak frontal boundary to our west that isn't packing much punch. We also have dry air and high pressure making for some lovely weather to wrap up this week. As we roll into Saturday. Not much changes. The Plains cold front will move into the Valley, but leaves little chance for rain on Saturday or Sunday. So if you were wanting rain for the weekend, you may not want to hold your breath. Chances will be on the low side. But if you had big events planned! Enjoy! Things 'should' go your way! Better chances for rain roll around by early next week with a stronger cold front moving in by then. Brian Fowler Meteorologist WAFF 48 Storm Team We Track Storms 256-533-6397

Trouble in the Tropics

Trouble in the Tropics

Sparse rain chances for a while here in the Valley.  But don't tuck those umbrellas away just yet.  Tropical Storm Isaac may be our next big chance for rain or storms here in the Valley by early next week.

Right now Isaac is moving through the Tropics and some modeling has it on a course for Florida and/or the Gulf by Monday or Tuesday.  If this happens, according to one of our long-range models, Isaac could head up the coast of Alabama.  I will say this is still five plus days out and many things may change the course of Isaac between now and then.

We'll have the latest on Isaac and Tropical Storm Ten tonight on WAFF-48 News.

Strong to Severe Storms Possible East of I-65

This evening into the overnight hours may be on the bumpy side for parts of the Valley.  There will be the potential for strong and even severe storms in an area east of I-65 especaially.  Some storms may produce hail, winds up to 50 or 60mph, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

The Storm Prediciton Center has put us in a slight risk area for severe weather which continues into early tomorrow morning for the Valley.

Rain and storm chances stay in the forecast through the weekend and into next week.  A break in this heat is expected by Monday or Tuesday.

Weak Cold Front Heads This Way

Weak Cold Front Heads This Way

Right now, we are out ahead of cold front that does not promise cold air.  But a few thunderstorms may develop as it rolls through the Valley today. And although we are not anticipating severe weather, a few strong storms may very well develop with gusty winds, lightning, and small hail being the main threats.

Behind the front, drier air will penetrate overnight and leave fair skies and warm temperatures for tomorrow.

Warmer Weather Here to Stay

Warmer Weather Here to Stay

Spring has Sprung and temperatures have shot up above normal here in the Valley.  Highs today reaching the upper 80s while some of us may hit 90.  As for rain, a ridge of high pressure in the upper-levels of the atmosphere is stretching west and north.  This is keeping much of our rain chances at arms length for now.  Rain chances this week are going to be small as only weak disturbances move through here.  This combined with daytime heating may spawn a few afteroon isolated showers or storms.

Other than these slight chances for rain, each day will be mainly warm and sometimes muggy.  Highs will be in the mid and upper 80s.
